The story of the timer
The HayTime timer has been developed to meet our specific needs. It has been important to us that our horses, who live in our own barn, get hay as often as possible. However, our indigenous horses cannot be on free-choice hay, but need small amounts of hay at a time. However, in our busy life with small kids, the constant hauling of hay proved to be a challenge. We wanted a reliable, sustainable and easy-to-use way to time our horses’ hay. However, we found that such a solution
was not available on the market at a reasonable price.
Marko, who works as a mechanical engineer in his main job, decided to take up the challenge and start developing a timer to suit our needs. Marko, who does 3D design both at work and in his spare time, decided to use 3D printing to design and implement the timer. After designing and testing various prototypes, the first HayTime mechanical timer to be sold was born.
After the mechanical timer was completed, we realised the following need. Many customers needed more than one timer for their horses to open at the same time, but it is difficult to synchronise mechanical timers to open at the same time. Thus began the development of the digital timer, which took a few years. At the same time as the digital timer, we also designed a controller specifically for hay boxes, so that horses can be fed conveniently with our timers, for example in a hay box outside the barn.
It has always been important to us to make it possible for as many people as possible to buy a timer, and that’s why we try to keep the price of HayTime timers affordable. We also know that things happen with horses, so all spare parts and replacement instructions are also available separately.
